Tensile and flexural strength of polylactic acid (PLA) are much higher than those of PP and ABS, but impact strength and heat distortion temperature are significantly low. PLA can not be directly applied to automotive interior parts because of these disadvantages. In this study, mechanical properties and thermal distortion temperature of PLA based composites with adding kenaf fiber, talc and rubber were measured. Tensile and flexural strength of PLA with increasing content of kenaf fiber were dramatically improved. The hydrolysis rate of PLA was much slower compared with kenaf/PLA composites because of low moisture absorption rate. Impact strength of PLA can be improved by adding rubber and thermal distortion temperature was significantly improved by increasing the degree of crystallinity.
