The goal of this article is to establish the concept of common literary language, and also to explain how East Asian common literary language was formed and was deconstructed from a linguistic history standpoint. This study also discusses how common literary language from a model of Classical Chinese accepted in East Asia, and shows what characteristics were revealed and how the common literary language settled down during contact with their own language. Besides, it attempts to demonstrate universality of common literary language and its particularity in East Asia, by comparing common literary language of East Asia with some another kinds of common literary language, for example, Latin, Arabic, and Sanskrit. Recently it is highly interested in East Asia countries, including Korea, China, Japan, and Vietnam, nationally and internationally. With an economic growth rate of East Asia, recently 'East Asian values' comes into the spotlight, regretting western development-centered and expansion-centered styles. However, there are relatively not much concerns about East Asian languages. On the other hand, there is exclusive interest on common literary language in East Asia, which helped make East Asia think and communicate through the culture within a civilization, to say nothing of Chinese Classics, Chinese and Korean linguistics. It is clearly necessary to pay proper attention to East Asian common literary, it is called Chinese Classics or literary language, which was for many centuries not only a tool of cultural communication in the whole East Asia, but also a means of thought. This paper is a result of critical mind.
