In recent years there has been increasing interest in various kinds of growth management techniques. Several state and local governments in America have adopted growth management policy as a mean of keeping their amenity of life.
On the other hand, growth management policy might be viewed as the most critical to keep aesthetic view of local areas. Prior Researches on growth management have shown that growth management has been instrumental to aesthetic landscape control and that there has been a positive relationship between growth management and aesthetic landscape control done by government.
Even though there was a few research trying to identify the effectiveness of growth management policy in terms of keeping aesthetic landscape, such research has not fully explained the relationship between the existence of growth management and aesthetic landscape. So this research tried to explain the relationship using several cases, such as Carlsbad City and Laguna Beach City in California, State of Hawaii, and State of Washington, concentrating on keeping aesthetic landscape in their areas.
The major objective of this study was to gain a more complete understanding of the relationship between the existence of growth management policy and aesthetic landscape control and suggest the policy implications to adopt the growth management policy and aesthetic landscape control systems in Korea.
