The purpose of this study was to find out the important factors for performing a stable landing and to provide training courses with the useful training data by investigating the kinematic variables of the successful landing of strectched backward salto skill. For this study, the performances of 4 national male gymnasts were analyzed with 3-dimensional cinematographic method, using 2 video cameras. Based on the analysis of the kinematic variables, the conclusions were drawn as follows.
1. It was revealed that the average hip joint angle was 234.8±7.5°.The average body rotation angle was 204.5±6.2° at the highest point during the flight phase. And the gymnasts stretched the upper half of the body backward swiftly and kept the rotary power by bending the hip joints before TD, where the power of the rotation decreases. They also increased the body rotation angle by putting up the upper half of the body and took down without moving
the upper half of the body by minimizing the horizontal and vertical velocities.
2. The proper joint angles to get a successful landing during the landing phase were shown as 75~107° for the knee joing angle, 39~78° for the hip joint angle, 39~89° for shoulder joint angle and 365~390° for the body rotation angle. In order to control their bodies the gymnasts bent their knee joints a little after TD, maintained the angle during LD, stretched the shoulder joints, and made their hip joint angles and the body rotation angles gentle.
3. It was shown that during the landing phase it was important to decrease the horizontal velocity and the vertical velocity quickly by stretching the shoulder joints and lower the point of the body center in order to make a landing.
In conclusion, the important factors to make a landing are like these : to increase the body rotation angle, to maintain the rotary force by bending the hip joint angle, and to keep the balance by stretching the shoulder joints, lower the point of the body center, and decrease the horizontal and vertical velocities of the body center at LD.
