It is the intention of this study to discuss the expression and meaning of detail dealing with the aspect from architectural tectonic, space, elements and aesthetics. And a theoretical study of this article is composed of the research about tectonic and detail's character on the basis of joining unit. Detail is the essential factor of various architectural elements and process of making, so classification of detail was organized according to architectural elements, particularly researching within the limits of structure system. Expression structural system in construction process implies various meaning by itself, and has important position of architectural design. Like this, extension of meaning implied to detail isn't matter of interpretation, but situation combined structure with other elements (like building equipment, space, cladding etc.) In this context, it's possible to discuss on implication of tectonic and detail. Study on detail in this article is significant in integrated architectural design process. And already many example in contemporary architecture represent that detailing is critical process in designing and making a holistic architecture.
