The purpose of this study was to begin with possibility of earth that deconstructs and rearranges the area of architecture, city and landscape escaping the dichotomy thinking of the modem age. Then that can recover the methology and meaning of the earth operating on architectural program and representing itself. However, the abstract and realistic charateristic of the earth does not remains as a peripheral device, but intervenes into a factors of forming the space and operates on the relational factor with a territory-space at various layers. In this conditions, 'earth-skin' is meaningful because it practices programmatic combination by inner and external factor and blurs the boundary of urban, landscape and architecture. This means that the earth has not only a meaning of ecological matter in the nature, but also a meaning of various layer of urban skin as the manufactured floor and background of space. The previous study has concentrated on the method of planning that substitutes 'representing of Topography' for architecture. However, this study extend the Characteristics of Earth imposed and investigate the new sight of reading Characteristics of Earth in contemporary architecture.
