Verbs are divided into intransitive verbs and transitive ones, and each category is further divided into Utuidousi and Mutuidousi depending on the existence or otherwise of corresponding verbs.
The present study analyzed differences in meaning between Utuizidousi (Intransitives with their transitive counterparts in the Prototype framework) and Mutuizidousi (Intransitives without their transitive counterparts in the Prototype framework). The study also examined meanings that can be expressed by Mutuizidousi.
Major findings about the relationship between Mutuizidousi and causative verbs are as follows:
(1) When an event happens because of the action of the causee, causative expression is possible regardless of the existence of causer's intention.
(2) When an event happens because of the action of the causee but without his or her intention, as with verbs that represent emotion and mental state, causative expression is impossible when intention is given to the causer.
(3) When the natural variation of matters occurs naturally without intentional actions of the causer, causative expression is possible.
(4) Even though a natural phenomenon cannot be expressed as causation, causative expression is sometimes possible when people get intentionally ready for the completion of an action or the establishment of a state.
(5) Even when the causee has no control as in a person's physical growth or changes in flora and fauna, causative expression is possible when intended meaning includes intention to create a situation volitionally.
(6) When causers are careless or feel responsible for changes in events, causative expression is possible.
