In Korea day care facility appeared in 1926, has increased continuously from 1967. Especially in Daegu, it has progressed from 1980s with whom were from student movements participants, some of democratic crusaders. Also there were great deal of participants who were volunteers in missionary works on the wrong side of the tracks.
Up to present day care employment has been studied about low income family policies as well as social welfare services. However, there was no investigations about practical day care works and self-sacrificed women volunteers and crusaders.
Therefore this study intends to investigate the history of day care centers by interviewing women participants. This study has approached three ways :
1) Review of available literature and reference materials in Korea and abroad on the subjects and related subjects,
2) Visiting institutions and participants which take charge of child welfare, day care and early childhood education from 1980s to 1990s.
This study shows the lives of women activists engaged in day care movement, including personal motives of taking part in such movement, hardships they had gone through during their activities. In the end, it presents main points handled above and brought forward the meaning of this paper and the necessity of further study on this realm.
