Among all Christians one of the most important and effective persons in the church should be the pastor. The pastors’ role as professional is in the heart of the church's mission and they should be capable of faithfully and wholeheartedly carrying out their God-given vocation. When pastors’ spirituality and pastoral ethics are dried up and contaminated, the result can extend to all pastoral dimensions. Therefore, enhancing and nurturing the spirituality and re-standing the pastoral ethics are important not just for themselves but also for the church and the world.
This research addresses this crucial issue by focusing on the spiritual development of pastors and groping for the pastoral ethics. The authentic identity of pastors, which comes from their own spirituality, is the source of the most important vitality that give power and authority to the pastor. Only when we as pastors awaken to our spiritualty, can we renew and re-energize our ministry and lives. We can not manufacture spirituality, but we can nurture and enrich this gift of God through ceaseless reflecting and struggling.
And pastors’ leadership should be understood in the relationship of God who called them as God’s instrument. Because the power that pastors have comes from God who empowers God’s servant to fulfill God’s will, they should use their power for the glory of God. Christian leadership requires a deep spiritual formation involving the whole person within the mystery of God’s presence and absence. Pastors should live as pastors worthy of the name within authentic spirituality and healthful ethics because the biggest honor and vocation of pastors is to keep their position as servants of God. They must keep in mind who they are called to be and that they are needs as God’s Servant.
