The basic principles of Korean Reunification advocated by Lyuh Woon Hyung are Left-Right Coalition and National Self-determination. The assertion of Left-Right Coalition and National Self-determination was a common element in the political discourses of all South Korean political forces concerning Korean Reunification in the period of 1945~1948. Therefore, it is necessary for understanding the traits of Lyuh Woon Hyung's argument about Korean Reunification to comprehend the contextual-real meaning of Left-Right Coalition and National Self-determination which he advocated. For the comprehension of the contextual-real meaning of Lyuh Woon Hyung's Left-Right Coalition and National Self-determination, it is necessary to know his political thought and his relations to the domestic and foreign political forces in the period of 1945~1948.
Socialism is the political ideology which Lyuh Woon Hyung believed. He manifested the realization of classless society as the ultimate aim of his political activity and acted on a two-stage strategy of revolution for the achievement of his aim. Especially, he made efforts intensively to organize a more inclusive united front for the first-stage revolution, bourgeois democratic revolution. He thought that political coalition was more important than ideological struggle in driving forward bourgeois democratic revolution. Judging from the facts mentioned above, Lyuh Woon Hyung's socialism seems to be close to democratic socialism rather than revolutionary socialism
Lyuh Woon Hyung formed a close alliance with communists in South Korea and Kim n Sung in North Korea. He performed political activities under the command of the Soviet Army stationed in North Korea. And he cooperated closely with the Centrists in the Left-Right Coalition movement. But he was hostile to the Right and excluded the Right from the Left-Right Coalition movement. He pursued the Left-Centrist Coalition under the pretense of the Left-Right Coalition. Lyuh showed a non-hostile and neutral attitude toward US Military Government in South Korea superficially, but he looked forward to seeing the failure of it internally.
Taking account of Lyuh Woon Hyung's political thought and his relations to the domestic and foreign political forces, the contextual-real meanings of Lyuh Woon Hyung's Left-Right Coalition and National Self-determination can be summarized as follows:
1) The contextual-real meaning of Lyuh Woon Hyung's Left-Right Coalition was not a genuine Left-Right Coalition but a Left-Centrist Coalition. Lyuh attempted to achieve Korean Reunification by grand coalition between the Left-Centrist Coalition in South Korea and the communist regime in North Korea. The Korean Reunification that Lyuh conceived was the establishment of a Left-dominated government in the whole of Korea, and the Left-Right Coalition that Lyuh advocated was a means for the establishment of the Left-dominated government in the whole of Korea.
2) The contextual-real meaning of Lyuh Woon Hyung's National 321 Self-determination is not the exclusive self-determination of the Korean nation against all foreign forces. His National Self-determination means pra-Russian and anti-American self-determination. Under the pretense of National Self-determination Lyuh urged the withdrawal of the US Army from South Korea and cooperated to make the Soviet plan about the Korean peninsula a success.
In sum, Lyuh Woon Hyung's argument about Korean Reunification was different from the argument of the communists in linguistic expression, but his argument was similar to their argument in contextual-real meaning.
