'Mac(貊)' that appeared in a number of ancient documents was the name on the tribe resided on the northern side of China. Compared to this, the eastern part of the Palhae Bay was recognized from early times as the residential area of 'The hometown of Yiye(夷濊), for the Ye Tribe. From the Ye Tribe, Joseon became the earliest independent political power, followed by Buyeo, Jinbeon, Imdun and others emerged as independent political power in the region, and 『Sagi(史記)』 collectively called d1e political power and resident group around Joseon as 'yemac(濊貊)'. The name for the northern tribes of China as Mac(貊) combined with 'ye(濊)' after 『Sagi』 to change into the expression on general Ye(濊) Tribe residing on the northeastern part of China.
From Yemac that resided around Gojoseon, the pan that was influenced the most northern part became was that Goguryeo around the first century B.C. Yemac of Manchuria that was the land of Gojoseon had certain independence until the second century of B.C., but it eventually became Koguryo. And, from the record of 『Huhanseo(後漢書)』 and 『Samgukji(三國志)』 and others, Koguryo was referred to the same line of 'Mac' or 'Mac Tribe'.
In the 3~2 century of B.C., the iron culture was advanced from Liaodong (遼東) to Cheongcheon river(淸川江) and the Korean-style bronze culture was advanced in Western Han area. Dispersion of iron farm tools and equipments brought the advancement of farming technology and increase of its productivity, Furthermore, it would promote the increase of population and the social division that brought birth to the movement of forming new political bodies around Hunjiang(渾江) and middle region of Yalu River(鴨綠江). During the process of such changes, the Koguryo society was established.
