The aim of this paper is to examine inflections according to conditions of stems and syntagmatic environments of endings beginning with '-?/-α'. This papre would propose an alternative method which reflects these aspects on Korean unabridged dictionary.
This paper examined the final vowel of stems and specifically presented syntagmatic environments of '-?' and'-α'. We also totally adjusted inflections of endings beginning with'-?/-α' according to patterns of the last syllable of stems.
In many of former unabridged dictionaries, explanation about syntagmatic environments of ending beginning with '-?/-α' is provided as 'the method of complementary classification'. And various inflectional aspects of endings are given in appendix.
To offer more obvious and accurate informations on endings beginning with'-?/-α', employing 'the method that describes syntagmatic environments' is better than employing 'the method of complementary classification', for there are difficulties in setting up a single and absolute criterion on choosing between '-?' and '-α'. We also suggest it is more efficient way that various inflections of endings are provided in additional informations of an entry, not in appendix.
