This study was taken up to identify what type of interregional inequality pattern among three types of inequality pattern has been traced in Italy for the period of 1961-1990 and Korea for the period of 1968-1990 in order to test which spatial inequality theory is applied to these two countries. After this, Italy and Korea were compared in terms of interregional inequality scale during the period of 1968-1990. In addition Amos' curve was tested.
As a result, it was found that on an average Korea suffered larger inequality that Italy during the study period, 1968-1990. It was also found that a 'L-Shape' pattern of interregional inequality was made in case of Italy while a 'Bell-Shape' pattern, in case of Korea. It was, therefore, confirmed that a mixture of 'interregional equilibrium school' and 'interregional disequilibrium school' is valid in Italy meanwhile 'interregional equilibrium school', in Korea as far as study period is concerned. This study in addition tried to confirm whether Amos' curve is confirmed or not . To our regret, however, it was not confirmed.
Based on the study results, it was recommended that a more detailed study has to be taken up to find out factors causing a different spatial inequality pattern in Italy and Korea based on which more appropriate regional policies may be worked out. It was finally concluded that the problem of regional inequality in one country may be deeply related with its various aspects such as history, polity, economy, society, culture, etc.
