This study has investigated an interrogative and an indefinite usage of the interrogative in Korean and Japanese, such as 'nannno' and 'donnna' in Japanese and 'mwusun' and 'etten' in Korean, which are usually combined with the noun in both languages.
It turned out that 'nannno' and 'mwusun' have a semantic function of 'requirement of label' and 'centripetal requirement', while 'donnna' and 'etten' have the semantic function of 'requirement of description' and 'centrifugal requirement' in their interrogative use. Also, in their indefinite usage, the above arguments are shown to be retained.
In the aspect of contrastive study of both languages, 'nanno' and 'donna' correspond to 'mwusun' and 'etten', respectively in interrogative usage. But it was not so simple to deduce the correspondence in their indefinitive usage. For instance, 'mwusun' corresponds not only to 'nanno, donnna', but also to 'nani, nannde, nannto', while 'etten' corresponds not only to 'donnna, nannno' but also to 'aru' that means indeterminate fact.
Since the noun considered here is limited to the supplementary noun, however, there are some problems unanswered yet in this study, such as, "Can the semantic functions, 'requirement of label' and 'centripetal requirement', and 'requirement of description' and 'centrifugal requirement' be generally applied to the noun ?" and "How can the above interrogative 'nannno donnna mwusun etten' be classified in the whole interrogative?". The study concerning these problems will be done in near future time.
