Now, half a century has passed since social welfare was introduced into Korea. And this thesis was started under questions if it is right to adopt the theories and methods based on the realities of Western, particularly American society to the century without considering our own situation.
And the difference of those paradigms between the western and eastern are suggested ; the former is analytic Dualism, while the latter is represented synthetic Monism. With the premise represented above, rest on a fallacies and limitations of the western standpoints, I have indicated the new charateristics of social welfare in Korea as follows.
First, assuming satisfaction of needs as the absolute condition to happiness, the needs theory in social welfare ignored that individual may feels happy depending on how he/she diffused his/her own needs outward. Therefore, the selective redution of individual needs may be prevented or solved the many different social pathologies caused by human fetishism and endless needs.
Second, modem civilization of human being are a slave to a fetishism too much by a flourishing capitalism. Therefore humanity of our society have fall into ruin as days go by. So we, in social welfare, must be concerned to an anti-fetishistic view of life.
Third, all the social problems and phenomena have both two characteristics : subjective and objective ones. Therefore, We must armed with the synthetic Monism which deserved a special emphasis on subjectivity. So with client in social welfare practice, social worker must be concerned to elevate their moral qualifications and trust. For the purpose of enlightment for the Social welfare, what is called social welfare education' must be established as a field.
Finally, undoubtly it is right that the nature is not a subject of overcome or control to a target of consolidate. Therefore, Social Welfare must made up a scientific diagnosis and professional prescription on a assumed premise that Social Welfare is a kind of social provision about social problem.
