〈Namgungseonsaengjeon〉(The rest is marked in 〈Namgung〉) is composed of internal story narrated by the first person and external story narrated by the third person. Internal story is about Namgungdoo's 'succeeding in life' and 'becoming sinseon'. External story is the background about that the first-person narrator met Mr. Namgung, and the first-person narrator's comment about Mr. Namgung. 〈Kimsinseonjeon〉(The rest is marked in 〈Kim〉) is composed two parts. In the first half, the first-person narrator narrates the messages that he heard from neighbors about Mr. Kim. In the second half, the first-person narrator narrates his direct search about Mr. Kim. So, 〈Kim〉 is a narrative about the narrator's 'searching sinseon'.
In the two texts, not only ‘succeeding in life' but also ‘becoming sinseon' and ‘searching sinseon' connote realistic discourse. In 〈Namgung〉, Mr. Namgung's ‘succeeding in life' and ‘becoming sinseon' are the trace of his desire and it's failure. Mr. Namgung's failure of ‘succeeding in life' connotes the meaning extraordinary character's frustration, and his failure was caused by disobeying Confucian ethics. The failure of ‘becoming sinseon' connotes the meaning that human's natural desire is acknowledged. In 〈Kim〉, narrator's ‘searching sinseon' was failed. The failure of ‘searching sinseon' connotes the meaning that the sinseon who is taoist hermit with miraculous powers is not exist. Just, sinseon is the man who live in obscurity all through his life.
〈Namgung〉's narrator can be considered Heo gyun and 〈Kim〉's narrator Bak Ji-ueon too. When 〈Namgung〉's narrator and character met each other, narrator, namely the writer longed for sinseon's world, but character, namely Mr. Nam felt doubts about sinseon's life. So, narrator and character were in disagreement. This feature reflects the writer's mental anguish. 〈Kim〉's narrator and character missed each other. Narrator, namely Mr. Bak was getting the blues at that time. Narrator knew that Mr. Kim had nothing remedy of Taoism, but he wanted to meet him, because he felt sympathy with Mr. Kim about social dissatisfaction. The readers of 〈Kim〉 must catch the meaning of hidden side.
〈Namgung〉 and 〈Kim〉 have relation with the context of Joseon society and literary history. With growing empirical and rational thinking and consciousness, writers created sinseon tale based on reality. So, sinseon tales also have realistic meanings. Especially, two texts have great value in protecting touches of humanity.
