This study examines EU antidumping measures applied to Korean imports in the case of the iron and steel sector. Since 2004, EU tends to reinforce the antidumping regulation and the imports inspection systems to the sector. While the trade balance surplus of Korea to EU is increasing since 1998, Korea, filed with 8 antidumping cases in October 2005 at present, seems to be regarded as a major counter-party of the EU imports restriction policies.
In case study of the 3 products filed in the iron and steel sector, this paper aims to induce policy implications and counter measures to overcome the non-tariffs barriers in enlarged EU. At first, it is necessary for the Korean government to reinforce the functions of the countermeasures team against the imports restrictions as current system. The Korean firms have to pay attentions to the changing tendency of EU antidumping regulations for the community interest, especially that about taking into account the dumping margin, the determination of injury, the initiation of proceedings etc. They also have to make reactions with unified voices and in close cooperation around the federation concerned.
