The Purpose of this study is to propose the Direction for the operational and institutional improvement of e-Letter of Credit System which are currently coming into operation under Global e-Trading Platform.
Commercial letters of credit have been used for centuries as one of the most important payment and financing vehicles in international trade. However, this Letter of Credit brings additional costs and challenges such as complicated application process, presentation of the incorrectly issued documentation, and so on. Therefore, e-Letter of Credit System has been introducing into around the world to provide trading companies with an efficient and safe mechanism to realize business deals through Internet and computer. This e-Letter of Credit System can come to electronically realize the traditional Letter of Credit usage and system.
But The e-Letter of Credit System still not being revitalized up to now despite a lot of efforts ever since. Therefore, To activate e-Trade transaction, the System needs the operational and institutional improvement as follows. (ⅰ) building of global one stop e-trading system, (ⅱ) the enhance of bank's primary roles, (ⅲ) acceptance of transaction and credit risks in a bank with which one has an account, (ⅳ) tied up with the insurance company, and so on.
So, e-Trade system providers should build up the system which are fully integrated but can be used individually to enable phased introduction of transformation and benefits, Whereas their Bank should develop business model to support these services to the parties concerned.
