The Internet revolution has been the driving force behind the expansion of electronic commerce (e-commerce, EC). The world is witnessing the emergence of a new concept of "cyber trade(CyberTrade)", which refers to cross-border business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce. Studies and policy formulation exclusively related to CyberTrade are currently underway in Korea, as a means to complement Korea's heavy dependency on trade.
CyberTrade refers to "trading physical and digital goods over cyberspace by means of IT technology, such as the Internet or EDI, or digitalizing trade procedure". It is different from e-commerce which emphasizes the content of a transaction, while CyberTrade focuses on the procedure of trade and aims at the enhancement of trade productivity by going digital.
This study finds out that the most essential factor for implementing CyberTrade is the leadership of the CEOs and creating content is another important factor. Government support is crucial in forging CyberTrade infrastructure and nurturing experts. Considering the supply of CyberTrade experts is very short, it is essential to amplify education programs for CyberTrade experts-supporting a refresher course of firm or reforming of formal school education. The size of a company or the degree of competition need not be an obstacle to implementing CyberTrade.
The suggested policies to promote CyberTrade are to create a infrastructure, enhance SME's capacity in CyberTrade, upgrade training and education programs and lastly establish Korea's position on international e-commerce issuess.
