The objective of this paper is to derive a collaborative model for developing international trade professionals. It has been reported that there exist significant gaps between the expected demand from industry and the supply from university in terms of both quantity and quality. This paper suggests a knowledge based model by considering his/her career process. The suggested model intends to reduce asynchronous information gap at every stage of career process. In particular, collaborative model is assumed to be knowledge based portal and the model provides practical guidelines how to pursue competence growth for global trade professionals.
Several meaningful research propositions are derived from this paper. First, current shortage of global trade professionals brings both opportunity and threat to those organizations who are providing educational and training services. Therefore it is very important to identify the reasons why these problem happen in supply chain process of human resources. Second, competence based human resources development is desirable because it considers specific people requirements by industrial segments. Third, the importance of global trade advancement program such as global e-trade or global SCM is very helpful to come up with effective results. Fourth, career development planning plays an important role in human resources development process because it stimulates to get self-confidence and to focus on customized curriculum for his/her career. Therefore, internship or project participation from students at senior level is helpful to increase human resources development effects. Finally, enterprise knowledge portal is suggested so that the model can help to accelerate the scope and speed of collaboration among global trade communities.
This model helps to improve the competence of individual, and thus to increase the industrial competence. Though the limitations of the suggested model resulting from exploratory study this model would significantly reduce the information gap between demanding and supplying organizations for global business professionals.
