The interaction effects between three major factors on juvenile delinquency were analysed by Regresssion analysis and ANOVA in this paper. Attachment to parents(control factor), school achievement(strain factor), and contact with delinquent peers(pull factor) were chosen as major causes of juvenile delinquency. Four types of delinquency(status offense, truancy or runaway, violent crime, robbery) were used as dependent variables.
Concerns of this paper lies on three topics. First, do the interaction effects between major factors show significant relationship with four patterns of delinquency? Second, do the interaction effects between major factors have explanatory power on delinquency? Third, what is the patterns of the interaction effects between major factors?
The results of analysis are as follows.
1) The interaction effect between attachment to parents and school achievement does not have significant relation with any of four types of delinqueny. There is no need to explain the patterns of this interaction effects, because the effect has no signigicant relation with delinquency.
2) The interaction effect between school achievement and contact with delinquent peers has significant relation with three types of delinquency, status offense, truancy or runaway and robbery. When students don't have contact with delinquent peers, as the level of attachment to parents become lower, the level of all types of delinquency shows minor increase. But when students have contact with delinquent peers, students with low attachment to parents commit significantly high rate of crime compared to students in other categories.
3) The interaction effect between attachment to parents and contact with delinquent peers has significant relation with three types of delinquency, truancy or runaway, violent crime and robbery. The patterns of this interaction effect are similar to those of interaction effect between school achievement and contact with delinquent peers. This shows that the effect of attachment to delinquency is conditioned by contact with delinquent peers.
