It is very important problem to completely detect the skin color of face and body in static color images. Correct detection of the skin color depends on the brightness according to the camera setting or various illumination conditions. In particular, the cosmetics of women cause variations of skin colors. Previous researches using YCbCr color model have used only color tones (CbCr) of skin to solve the illumination problem. Through the experiments, we knew that color tones (CbCr) shows slightly different areas according to Y values including illumination conditions. Therefore, we propose a 3D skin color model considering all color tones of Asian skin color images. This model includes all color tone areas depending on the illumination conditions and then gives accurate detection of skin color without respect to consider the illumination conditions.
