The purpose of this study is to provide specific and micro-level information about aspects of media use that appears in smartphone and social media and its users through semantic network analysis. Also, the difference in perception of smartphone and social media usage pattern among different gender and age group, and the difference among the usage patterns is structurally investigated. Focus group interview was conducted to figure out the concepts related to smartphone and social media users.
Some results from smartphone usage pattern study indicate that males of age 10-19 years old and females in their 20s use internet conveniently along with variety of applications and utilize social media. Social media such as Twitter showed a noticeable gender difference among its users. Majority of the male group utilizes Twitter for its information sharing characteristics while the female in the age group of 20-30 years old is active in Twitter merely because Twitter has become a major social trend that cannot be refused. Thus, the female group often uses Twitter to avoid the sense of being outdated. Regardless of age and gender, almost every group is commonly using Facebook as a tool to sustain their communication with friends abroad.
