The purpose of this study is to provide a key to teaching and learning methodology for increasing number of Vietnamese learners of Korean language by analyzing consistent errors in their writing. 448 writing samples of students at Ho Chi Minh City University, majoring in Korean language, were analyzed. In total, as for the errors in postposition, the most frequent error is using incorrect postposition 65.7%, which was followed by omitted postposition 14.3%, errors of word form 12.9%, wrongly added postposition 7.1%. The number of errors in ending is 1,171, which consists of the tense 43.9%, the connection 23.6%, the derivative 16.6%, the ending 9.4%, treatment with respect 6.4%.
Results of this study indicate that customized teaching methodology is necessary for Vietnamese learners based on structural difference between Vietnamese and Korean. Also, grouping the learners corresponding to their levels, emphasizing grammatical features unique to Korean language such as postpositional particle, and helping them use culturally appropriate word in the given context are suggested. Moreover, it is essential to conduct further research on Korean language education abroad.
