Data mining is set to play an important role in tackling the data overload in Biomedical informatics.
The rapidly increasing amount of data generated by hospital (patient, clinical, or management) database and biomedical devices, or retrieved from archives motivates the development of data mining system able to handle, analyze, and understand it automatically.
Data mining system supporting medical, managerial, and science theoretical decisions are attracting a lot of research work, and the benets include improved health care quality, reduced operating costs, and better insight into bio- and medical- data from gene-finding to new drug design & development.
In this talk, we walk through several case studies of disease diagnosis & prognosis, hospital fraud detection, protein function prediction, etc., following basic understanding on data mining and biomedical domain.
