There have been some discussions on the social responsibilities of full-time unions in major companies that take a hard line in terms of corporate social responsibility(CSR). Labor unions have played an important role in deciding on labor and social policies as important axis in our society. But unofficial strikes, habitual strikes, and scandals by shop stewards impede the national confidence in labor unions and they might lose their role in establishing social order.
In order to get large support from the people, with strong solidarity and high morality, the union has to promote a labor campaign. It, as a rational inspector and a critic of companies, has to fight against exploitation and take care of working conditions. It also has to consider the workers’ social position and share this responsibility with companies. Now is the time for the full-time unions to accept their social responsibility as the companies do.
This study is aimed at investigating how the full-time union should effects its role in taking social responsibility in a rapidly changing labor environment. Therefore, this study examines the problems caused by labor laws regarding the working environment, the organization of the labor union, unofficial and habitual strikes, the union’s internal, democratic administration of its organization in terms of the principle of Noblesse Oblige and the law’s role and this study also suggests the extension of a labor movement to direct its morality and its future.
