The purpose of this study was to examine the effects circuit training on physical fitness and metabolic indicators in middle aged overweight women. The study group was comprised of 60 overweight middle aged women, with percent (%) body fat over 30. The subjects were randomly divided into two groups: Control group (n=30); training group (n=30). The training group participated in a 12 week of supervised circuit exercise training program. They did 3 days per week for 30 minutes in a day. The control group did not participate in any exercise program. The effects of the interventions on physical fitness, body composition, blood pressure, and blood lipids were analyzed by means of repeated measures ANOVA.
All of our variables were improved after the intervention. An interaction effect between time and group on body weight (72.0±9.2 to 67.8±8.2), BMI (27.9±3.0 to 26.5±2.7), % body fat (37.9±4.2 to 34.8±5.0), waist circumference (WC) (88.9±8.0 to 83.1±6.6),, systolic blood pressure (SBP) (126.8±15.3 to 115.4±10.8), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (75.4±11.6 to 68.1±8.0), Sit up, grip strength of right side hand (GSR), grip strength of left side hand(GRL) TC (194.6±34.0 to 173.3±26.0), TG (115.3±42.4 to 9O.7±32.2), HDL C (45.9±7.2 to 47.9±8.9), and LDL C (107.4±26.3 to 85.9±19.8) was observed (p<0.05). In conclusion, the results of the current study suggest that moderate intensity circuit exercise training program, with 12 weeks of duration, are enough to positively influence the metabolic health indicators of middle aged overweight women.
