?『Youngjojeongsoonhu-garyedogam-euigwe』 is the book which recorded the entire marriage ceremony of King Youngjo who married his second queen Queen Jeongsoon in June of 1759. In this book, all the factual information on the marriageceremony is recorded in detail and this book continued to be compiled at the national level and since it shows us the courtesies and procedures of the Chosun dynasty, it carries significant value as academic data of Korean studies from the general socio-cultural perspectives.
? 『Youngjojeongsoonhu-garyedogam-euigwe』 recorded the entire process of the marriage ceremony, right from its preparations stage to the end with all the factual information associated with the ceremony. Of all the information available, the record on the compilation process i.e. the compilation of “Euigwe”, its arrangement process, the process of sending and receiving official documents, the storage of “Euigwe” etc. occupies one very important portion of the archival culture of the Chosun dynasty it carries its significant value as the kind of data that help us evaluate the archival value of the “Euigwe”.
In this thesis, we aim to contemplate the composition, contents and the compilation process of the 『Youngjojeongsoonhu-garyedogam-euigwe』 from the archival perspectiveand by analyzing the vast contents contained in the “Euigwe” from general point of view, it is our goal to examine all the related facts and characteristics associated with the compilation process to present the readers of this thesis with the background knowledge to understand the archival culture of the Chosun dynasty, which is 『Youngjojeongsoonhu-garyedogam-euigwe』.
The following are the results of analysis of the compilation process of the『Youngjojeongsoonhu-garyedogam-euigwe』.
Firstly, 『Youngjojeongsoonhu-garyedogam-euigwe』 was compiled to inculcate in the Royal family of the Chosun dynasty the meaning and significance of the auspicious ceremonies and also to serve as the model data for posterity. The “Euigwe” ministry was in charge of the compilation of “Euigwe” and during the ceremony, the records and information that were individually collected and drafted by“DongCheong” and each “Bang” were consolidated and reorganized to give rise to the compiled "Euigwe”.
Secondly, during the reign of Youngjo, with the enactment of “Gukhonjeongrye” (the book on the stipulations on marriage ceremony) and “Sangbangjeongrye” (the book on the stipulations of the high ranking officials), the number of compilations increased from 1 to 2 and 『Youngjojeongsoonhu-garyedogam-euigwe』 is the first “Garyedogameuigwe” of this kind. Since『Youngjojeongsoonhu-garyedogam-euigwe』 is the first garyedogameuigwe which had implemented the above regulations, it can be said that it is the very first garyedogameuigwe which was compiled with the requisite system and forms.
Thirdly, the compilation process of 『Youngjojeongsoonhu-garyedogam-euigwe』 broadly consists of the compilation of “Euigwe”, its arrangement procedures, the process of sending and receiving official documents and the storage of the “Euigwe”.
