The Japanese colonial period official documents possessed by Modeoksa has its rarity value as the local historical records for studying local cases in that time. However, compared with such a value, there are problems of its management and application and this study(thesis) aims to approach it with archival methods and suggest its arrangement and description in order to resolve the problems.
For this, first, I analyzed the issuers of the documents and its contents. In the perspective of analysis of the issuers, the administrative documents from Cheongyang-gun or Mok-myeon office were most. Through this, I confirmed the role and office of the chief of myeon(township) for local administrative unit were broad in regard of the reorganization of local administrative system in the Japanese colonial period.
For analyzing the contents, I identified how the Japanese ruling policies established in the area. The Policies such as Emperor Country"s Subject Policy, Economic Control and Collection Delivery were identified in the contents of the documents and I found the documents" historial and evidential values.
Based on these analysis, I made suggests on its arrangement and description. Before setting the level of arrangement, I classified the functions which showed on the documents and set up the level of arrangement with the structure of manuscript collection-records group-series/sub-series-file-item. And then I suggested description elements and reflected the documents" historical backgrounds and contents characteristics to show the status information.
When applying the structure on the real documents, the level of arrangement from the record group the item can be recognized on sight and the elements which were described by level reflect the documents" characteristics. I also found the methods to connect them in order to help users access the documents with similar functions and related sources.
