Daetongsa[大通寺] is established by King Seong[聖王]. According to Samguk yusa, it is said that Daetong-sa was established for Emperor Muje in Yang[梁武帝]. But it is not true. Meanwhile a place of Daetong-sa is not correct. After excavation there are no remains of Baekje, But according to Hoseoeubji(18c) Daetong-bridge[大通橋] exists in Jemin stream. Maybe on the opposite side of it Daetong-sa’s Main Gate can be located.
Daetong-sa is the temple to pray far the repose of King Mureng’s soul and to pray for King Seong’s son. Daetong-sa is not named by the chronological era[年號], Daetong[大通], of Emperor Muie. In fact Its name is derived from Daetong-Buddha[大通佛] in the Sutra of Rotus. Daetong-Buddha is the son of cakravartirazan[轉輪聖王]. Grandsons of cakravartirajan are Jijeok[智積] and Sakyamuni. In Baekje there are King Seong named cakravartirazan, the temple of Daetong-sa, the Sataekjijeokbi monument[砂宅智積碑] of Jijeok. Grandson of King Seong is King Beop named Sakyamuni. It is Daetong-sa that correlates the sacredness of the Royal family of Baekje as the lineage of Sakyamuni in the Sutra of Rotus.
