This study aims to consider the meanings of Kim So-weol"s Poetic Soul(詩魂) in the context of 1920"s.
It is centering around a "soul(靈魂)" that the first half of Poetic Soul has a cultural characteristic. He expressed a critic sense against European modern civilization in here. And he established a epistemological bases in here for colonial existences through the "soul" His view point of civilization was different from that the civilized intellectual had.
It is centering around a "poetic soul(詩魂)" and "shadow(陰影)" that the latter part of Poetic Soul has a characteristic as poetics. What he
established in here was the basic theory of modern poetry. It was the most important thing that many different poetry could be through times, society, and individual.
Kim So-weol"s such theory also could be important meanings in the context of about 1925. Because, at this very moment the school of
nationalistic literature little allowed the variations of the poetry. What they only allowed was that was well expressed of national sentiments in it through a fixed form. In this context, Kim So-weol"s Poetic Soul also could be the meaning against such dogma. In a word, Kim So-weol"s Poetic Soul has a characteristic of anti-poetics that against the general view point of civilization and the poetry.
