The purpose of this study was to consider the dress characteristic of expansion type shown in each local folk costume.
The study scope was concentrated on the folk dress have developed the type of woven cloth. The study method was based on theoretical research through literature and dress pictures collected from related books and internet were analyzed.
The expansion method of folk costume that showed similarity in type and showed the characteristics of expansion dress such as activity, symbol, design, textile and sewing.
Pancho type expansion dress was based on the connection of woven cloth as it is and it secures silhouette by connecting gusset to hem and armpit.
Caftan type expansion dress connects several clothes or connect gusset to needed part by using developed sewing skill to organize dress or make multi-purpose dress type such as coat, headgear and daily life product.
Drapery type expansion dress secures needed length and width by using woven narrow clothes. As the size of connected rectangle increases, it symbolizes high authority.
Loin cloth type & Trousers type expansion dress increases the property of activity by connecting triangle or diamond gusset to trouser leg, concentrates on width rather than length to increase width and expresses wrinkle splendidly by tightening it in waist.
The study is meaningful because it provides modern dress design with new silhouette and formativeness by grasping the expansion method of folk costume that is greatly affected by the study of folk costume for creative design and diversification.
