With the new paradigm shift of the information age in the 21th century, diverse and unique cultural patterns are being created all across the world. This study investigated the change in Korean-style fashion design from the 1980s to 2010s and the esthetic characteristics of Korean-style fashion design appeared in the 2000s, and as a result, divided the ‘the new paradigm of modern Korean fashion’ into the periods before and after the 2000s. In the 1980s, the traditional style was accepted to and compromised with the western style due to the conflict between traditionality and modernity, while in the 1990s, the ‘phenomenon of cognitive dissonance’ appeared in the existing Korean-style fashion design was resolved to some extent as the traditionality and modernity between design factors were harmonized and integrated. Since the 2000s, a globalized design fully mixed with traditionality and modernity has been presented, as young and new designers who pursue globalization and localization selectively accepted and reinterpreted Korean sensitivity and emotion according to the trend of the times, focusing on their identity. The new paradigm regarded as the most important in the modern Korean fashion is ‘concept’ based on the identity of designers. The Korean-style motive can be reinterpreted in the design process according to the intention of individual designers" concept and used in the embodiment as the concept of the designers. If further studies are actively conducted on the potential and competitiveness of K-fashion in the same line with the Korean-style fashion design, which has made a sequential historical development, not only can world-class fashion designers be developed, but also the position of world brands can be strengthened in Korea.
