This thesis will critically analyze the Revised Common Lectionary, which is commonly used in Korean churches of today. It will touch upon the problems and glitches of this lectionary, in hope of finding a better application to the Korean Church context. On basis of experience from its [The Revised Common Lectionary] use in the ministry, this thesis will focus on the practical problems that arises.
This lectionary, first introduced to Korea through A Handbook for Preaching and Worship in 1984, has broadened its influence steadily. The Common Lectionary, was first created by twelve denominations in North America associated in 1984, later to be revised in 1992 (and become The Revised Common Lectionary). A Handbook for Preaching, derived from this lectionary, now plays a fundamental role in combining a single system for all Korean churches to use. Increasingly many pastors and churches have adopted this system for preaching, and several denominations became interested in the use of the Revised Common Lectionary.
However, as The Revised Common Lectionary broadened its influence, pastors began to address the practical problems that occurred. With the absence of serious and concrete studies on this lectionary and the absence of consideration of it in the context of the Korean church, the concern for using lectionary naturally has led to the discussion of its problem and reformative direction.
