The purposes of this study are two-folds under the condition that the high-speed railway station district makes an important role in establishing the self-sufficiency of the urban metropolitan area. First, the study analyzes the major functions for activating the high-speed railway station district from the train passenger’s point of view. Secondly, it also reveals the relationship between the major functions and main means of transportation in order for passengers and station users to take advantage of the high-speed railway station district. On the basis of the empirical studies with the case of seven major KTX stations based on the factor and multi-linear analyses, it is found out that the commercial and cultural factors have the first priority in activating the high-speed railway station district. The transfer and amenity factors are regarded as the second priority. Secondly, it is recognized that the public transportation and the passenger car are deeply related with the transit transferring system and high-tee industry function, respectively. Finally, as the policy implication, this study emphasizes that when developing the high-speed railway station district, major functions to be introduced should be different from the hierachy of the station. It is also recommended that a sufficient parking areas are essential for establishing the high-tee industry and the R&D function in the district.
