The purpose of this research was to analyze the effects of silverobics exercise on metabolic syndrome risk factors, bone mineral density and living fitness of elderly women. Research subjects were females all over 65 years old. A silverobics exercise group included 30 women participating in a silverobics exercise program, while a control group included 30 women without any exercise program. The silverobics exercise program was consisted of 70-minute sessions, three times per week for 12 weeks. The exercise group showed decline in waist size (p<.05) and improvement of HDL-C (p<.001). Other variables of blood pressure, blood glucose at fasting, and triglycerides in blood declined, while bone mineral density increased without any statistical significance. Living fitness variables among exercise group subjects remarkably improved (p<.001). Competency of two-minute march in place was also enhanced (p<.01). Sit-up variables, however, declined among exercise group subjects without any statistical significance. According to the results, silverobics exercise is a total-body workout for elderly women, which leads to improve metabolism of fat and lastly, decline of waist size. At the same time, silverobics exercise improves HDL-C variable which increases the activity of enzymes such as lipase or lipoprotein of liver. And increased production of HDL raises triglycerides resolving. And silverobics exercise should reduce risk factors of metabolic syndrome and prevalence of cardiovascular problems as well as improve bone mineral density. Furthermore, silverobics exercise will bring positive changes to other health variables by improving general living fitness and increasing energy through exercise, which will lead to healthy life in later years.
