This study is on the marine route of Vietnamese northeast region from 8 to 18 century. Generally, there has been a lot of opinions about Vietnamese northeast region. This study looks into marine ports in East Asia and the marine route of the northeast region in Vietnam by analyzing data like materials by P. Y. Manguin in 1989, Portuguese data in International Library of Paris, materials from the literary works by Arte de Navegar, materials shown in Reys-gheschrift, and so on.
With the data, the study could identify 24 marine routes in Vietnamese northeast region. In addition, other various routes could be found in lots of data. The northeast region of Vietnam has made a very important role to Asian trades and interchanges from the before time of the prehistoric age, and made the important role in policy during the period of Vietnam Kingdom as well.
The northeast region of Vietnam is an open space, and we should look closely into the relation among river systems, marine routes, and trade ports.
