This study investigates the diachronic meaning of ‘hwonhada’, and verifies the semantic relationship of ‘hwonhada’ and ‘siwonhada’ diachronically.
As a result, in the 15th century, ‘hwonhada’ meant ‘unobstructed’ of place or mind. In the 15th century, ‘siwonhada’ meant ‘to feel much relieved’. Thus the etymology of ‘siwonhada’ is ‘hwonhada’. In other words, ‘siwonhada’ was combined with the word ‘hwonhada’.
The meaning of ‘hwonhada’ was focusing on the status of the place. And it has been expanded especially since Modern and Contemporary Korean. On the contrary, the meaning of ‘siwonhada’ was focusing on the status of the mind, and it has been expanded especially since Modern and Contemporary Korean.
