The purposes of this study were to investigate how students perceived the competitive activity in physical education class of middle school, and how motor skills of students affects attitude and awareness of competitive activity. The subjects consisted of 32 students(16 male and 16 female students) selected from two middle schools in A city. Data were collected via observations and focus group interviewing carried out with the total of 5 groups composed of 6 or 7 participants for 40 to 50 minutes. The data analysis was performed by inductive categorical analysis. The results were indicated. First, positive awareness such as interesting, fun, challenging, cooperation, and motivation has observed, while negative awareness such as irritation, criticism, jealousy, and psychological burden has observed. Also, distribution of team, the student who possess the ball, ill-mannered action, seriousness to competition are observed to be factors that affect to attitude and awareness of competitive activity. Second, analysis of attitude and awareness based on the motor skill of competitive activity implies that students with high motor skill has felt that activities presented in physical education class are not competitive than common sports, and has enjoyed the activity with friends whether he win or lose. However, they showed negative attitude to a student who has low motor skill or has not participated in competitive activity. Students who has average motor skill enjoy the challenging activity, yet have many complaints on passing during the competitive activity. Students who have low motor express positive attitude in the activity such cooperating with other friends or forming a league, yet they tends to express passive attitude such as easily giving up and feeling of alienation.
