This paper has the main intention to select proper contents for the teaching history with the film Quest for Fire(1981) by a famous french film director Jean-Jacques Annaud. In order to achieve this goal, it is valuable to make full use of the historical film’s contributions which a famous American film historian Robert A. Rosenstone insisted. According to his insights, the historical film should contribute to the historiography in three points?contesting History, visioning History and revisioning History. These contributions are surely helpful in assorting and interpreting the important things of the film, which has tried to represent the primitive times at the different way from the history textbooks.
Conclusively, there is no doubt that the film Quest for Fire actually contributed to the historiography and then to the history education in three points, contesting, visioning and revisioning History. Especially it proved that the principle of the simultaneity of the non-simultaneous can be also applied to the prehistoric times. In this meaning the film has to be reappraised as the good learning tool to raise the historical consciousness of the pupils through the moving image, if it can be precisely interpreted and properly used.
