In general, internal defects, such as shrinkage in casting, cause stress concentration and can be a starting point of crack. therefore, it is important to understand the effects of internal defects on mechanical properties including impact behavior. The objective of this research is to evaluate the internal casting defects on the impact performance of Al-ally castings. Both the experimental method and computational analysis were used to achieve the research objective. The internal defects in the casting were scanned by an industrial CI scanner, and its shape was simplified by ellipsoidal primitives for the impact analysis. The good agreement between the results obtained by experiments and computer simulations verified the reliability of the proposed method computational system for FEA of casting components with internal defects.
