This paper explored the acceptance of Buddhism and modification taken by Seondo(仙道敎) of Korea and Tenrikyo (天理敎) of Japan, newly emerged religions in premodern and modern eras of Korea and Japan. They aimed at establishing an ideal world on the earth by creating new religions while accepting the Buddhist belief in Maitreya and Amita Buddha as well as the Wheel-turning Monarch.
This was not unrelated to the fact that the framework of the existing world maintained under the predominance of men over women was broken and the critical point of time to enable the gender equality as well as women’s liberation was felt. Also, it represented and advocated equality of both genders, social positions and economic classes.
They are considered to sufficiently provide their own value to be delivered in the contemporary society. This is because we still have many tasks to be done in terms of gender and social and economic classes.
