In this paper, I analized the identification of the Ruined Koguryo People using the memorial inscription in Tang period, and proved that the Chinese in Tang Period acknowledged Koguryo People as the Korean ancesters identifying the one with Chosun, Samhan, Buyo and Jinhan, which meant that Koguryo belonged to the Korean history.
I analized epitaph of the Ruined Koguryo People which showed birthplace or identity, family histoy of the dead. A few Korean and Chinese students argued that some Ruined Koguryo People were assimilated by Chinese, because they insisted that they are a distinguished family of Bohai (渤海), i.e. Bohai Gao family (渤海高氏). But I maintained that it is not absolutely true because it was related with non-Chinese people or census registration policy. First, Tang government recognied that the second generation of non-Chinese people imigrated or moved by conquest were Chinese subject at law. So they have one’s legal domicile designated by Chinese province or county names. Second, Chinese government disagreed that the conquered identifed their ex-independent country. So it insisted that ex-opponent never used their country name, which applied to Koguryo as well as Turk and Uighur. Third, Some conquored Koguryo People were general or soldiers, so they moved the army posts in capital or frontiers, which was reconied their birth place or registered domicile.
Some Chinese wrote epitaph of the Ruined Koguryo People and identfied the other with people of Chosun, Samhan, Buyo and Jinhan, which were ancestrial Korean countries. they were synonyms of Koguryo in context of the memorial inscription. This proved that Chinese in Tang Period recognized both have same historical identity as well as ethnic, cutural, or social similarity. Many contemporary Chinese insisted Koguryo pertained to Chinese history, but their ancesrter in Tang period already agreed that Koguryo was one of the Korean ancient countries in Korean History.
