The study is about the IP MAN, who is a Chinese martial arts master often mentioned in the martial arts movies. Through his martial arts thoughts and philosophy, the significance of the martial arts practical effect and combat value advocated by him in the contemporary is the meaning of this study. I did the study from the IP MANs descendant and students’ memory and record, journalists’ interview materials and the record data about IP MAN. The result of the study shows that IP MAN born at foshan city, guangdong province, China in 1893. He studied wing chun from ChenHuaShun master since he was six. IP MAN dead in 1972, he donated his whole life for promotion wing chun. Since 1949, IP MAN established first wing chun school in Hongkong. That school laid a great foundation for wing chun promoted to the world. So he has been called the great master. IP MAN didn’t cling to the traditional bad culture, he simplified the complex rules between the master and the students in the old Chinese martial arts education. Besides that he introduced Confucian thought of “no child left behind” education thought into the wing chun education to make the wing chun popular in the world. Instead of focus on “authentic” or “not authentic”, he took practical applicability in the traditional martial arts seriously. IP MAN was also emphasize on combat value and combat consciousness in the martial arts education.
