In cold chain, the refrigerator has been also employed for defrosting method by using an electric heater which consumes 15% of the power for the system operation. In this study, the condensation heat of refrigerant was suggested to the heat source of defrosting heat, instead of the electric defrost heater. In order to store the heat, a phase change material(PCM) (NMP: 52°C) was used and the circulation loop of thermal media was added to refrigerator. As a result, the defrost time by PCM was obtained less than or equal to that by the electric heater. Moreover, power consumption was saved up to 99% of that of the electric heater.
