In the late of 14th century, it is happened the change of dynasty from Yuan Dynasty to Ming Dynasty in china. The change of Dynasty is accompanied by the change of diplomatic relations. Therefore, Koryo"s diplomatic relations were influenced by Ming Dynasty. During this time Lee Sung-in visited twice Nanjing, the capital of Ming Dynasty. He wrote "Bongsalok", the record of his diplomatic travel.
Lee Sung-in was a scholar of Neo-Confucianism, and educated students in Seong-gyun-gwan. He associated with many scholars such as Lee Saek, Jeong Mong-ju, kim Koo-yong and so on. and they became academic comrades. Lee Sung-in was a Confucian, a good writer. He had outstanding study and writing ability. The most important role of his political activities was the writing diplomatic documents to Ming.
During this time Lee Sung-in visited twice Nanjing. In september of 1386, Lee Sung-in went to Nanjing for the first time. and in october of 1388 he was second visit Nanjing with Lee Saek. At that time, He wrote "Bongsalok" in Doenjip.
During the Hongmu Emperor"s period, Koryo"s envoys usually went to Nanjing by sea. Koryo required Ming to change into the overland transportation. But Ming didn"t allow the overland transportation because of Northern Yuan. Afterwards Ming allowed passing through Liaodong region. Lee Sung-in was passing through Liaodong region and Balhae Sea, Shandong Peninsula to Nanjing. In 1386, Jeong Mong-ju went to Ming and came back with his diplomatic duty. According to "Bongsalok" in Doenjip, his route looks similar to the route of Jeong Mong-ju.
