The aim of this paper is to elucidate the meaning of the ‘univocity’ in Deleuze’s ontology. Deleuze, as a Spinozist, develops his concept of univocal being under his interpretation of Spinoza’s ontology. According to Deleuze, Spinoza is one who has tried to eliminate the gap between the eminent teleological principle and the physical mechanical laws in general in the realm of western philosophy; For this purpose, Spinoza has suggested the ‘attributes (the orders of extensions and of ideas of them)’ as common forms for both ‘substance’ and ‘modes.’ With regards to this statue of the attributes, Deleuze explains that the attributes are common ‘univocal’ principles for governing the absolute and creatures.
