This paper reviews the current spacing regulations and presents and alternative. This paper argues that the regulations in point should be viewed and revised from the perspective of ordinary people. The reason is that as there are no enforcing devices, the regulations need to be easy and clear enough for ordinary people to apply them to their casual writing without difficulty.
For that purpose, this paper introduces three formal conditions as evaluation criteria. They are the following; definitude condition, simplicity condition, and coherence condition.
This paper examines relevant regulations with the three formal conditions and shows that they fail to meet all the three requirements. The regulations examined here are related to the following; mono-syllable word sequence, auxiliary construction, and organization names/technical terms. Some of the current spacing regulations turn out to be redundant because they are inferred from other regulation. Some others are not helpful in that they are unnecessarily complicated and vague. Some regulations are not properly explained nor coherent to one another.
In the light of the discussion, this paper propose to drop the unnecessary regulations in point and shows that this action enhance the degree of completion and learnability.
