The present study was aimed at investigating the effects of dance sports class provided as liberal arts at college on social efficacy. For this purpose, dance sports classes were offered to 218 freshmen to seniors (111 males and 107 females) enrolled in W University in Jeollabuk-do Province for 16 weeks from August to December in 2012. SPSS 16.0 statistical program was used to examine the effects before and after each class by means of test paper for social efficacy. Following conclusion could be drawn from the investigation.
First, the dance sports class as a liberal arts subject at college turned out to demonstrate positive social efficacy. It was made clear from the class that college students should not only promote physical heath but also cultivate self-confidence in physical expression. Accordingly, dance sports should be viewed from the educational perspective and be included in college curriculum as a means to intensify human relationship among individuals.
Second, since dance sports class has been proved to exercise significant effects on social efficacy regardless gender difference, it should be conceived as a factor to satisfy individuals emotionally as well as psychologically and increase social efficacy of each student during the process of active interrelationship. It seems thus needed to create a new educational environment in which personal satisfaction could be achieved and at the same time, social technology as group could be upgraded.
From the above findings, it becomes obvious that the dance sports class at college is a very good tool to help individuals to know each other actively with positive mindset. While dancing, one can see one’s own ego from a new viewpoint, and cultivate etiquete, sense of respect to others and consideration, all properties of great worth to keep as a member of social community. Such manner, once acquired, will surely be effective to develop and maintain favorable social relationship in all respects of social life even after graduation.
