This paper suggests the appropriate appellation of ‘O egugin Jeongchaek’(Foreigner Policy) on the socio-linguistic analysis. That term was new invented in 2000s’ when the Korea became full-fledged into the multicultural age. Diachronic study about the foreigner policy of Korea unfolded that the implementation of that in earnest was since 2000’s. Foreigner policy has aimed stable settlement of immigrants in Korea. The government has named ‘Oegugin Jeongchaek’ that included the border control, residence management, and immigrants policy. The term, however, seems very limited given the contents and the policy environment. The appellation of policy must be value-free and be objective because it molds the social perception of the target people of the policy. ‘Imin Jeongchaek’(Immigration Policy) is preferable and more objective for the reflection of the reality of Korea. We suggest that the appellation is the better conceptualization of the policy response to the routinization of migration according to globalization and resulting multicultural phenomena.
